The Engage training curriculum: "Circular Economy Basics for Trainers"

The curriculum has been designed as part of the ENGAGE project. All partners have been involved and the result is derived from analysing the following information:

  1. The needs analysis survey conducted with our target group,
  2. Interviews with selected experts on circular economy,
  3. Case studies identified and selected,
  4. Focus groups conducted as part of the needs analysis.

The curriculum mainly elaborates on skills development for EQF levels 4 and 5 and provide information should a trainer wish to use it in EQF levels 6 and 7. The main focus is on skills and competence development, thus, learning objectives and respective assessment reflect this.

The ENGAGE VET training course is titled “ENGAGE – Circular Economy Basics for Trainers” and is comprised of three modules with respective subunits. The total duration is 40 hours of online training including 11 hours of project work as assessment. The target groups for the training course is primarily trainers and teachers in Vocational training, trainers and professors in other educational settings.

The course suggested design is modular which will enable the user to select training units based on interest and need.

Module Subunit
M1: Introduction to Circular Economy

 

Module description:

This module serves to introduce Circular economy to the target group and provide them with the overall principle surrounding CE as well as definitions.

 

Unit 1.1 Introduction to CE (2hrs)
Unit 1.2 CE Business concepts (2 hrs)
Unit 1.3 What is new in CE thinking (2 hrs)
Project work: creation of 1 learning plan for each unit in the module (3 hrs)
M2: Fostering Circular Economy

 

Module description: This module focuses on skills development in the target group and provides hands-on information on circular economy. The target group should be able to understand the concepts and application / implementation possibilities.

Unit 2.1 Recycling (3 hrs)
Unit 2.2 Re-use (3 hrs)
Unit 2.3 Waste prevention (3 hrs)
Unit 2.4 Extend product life (3 hrs)
Unit 2.5 Eco -design (3 hrs)
Unit 2.6 Servitization (3 hrs)

M3: Exploiting Circular Economy

 

Module description:  This module focuses on putting CE in practice.

Unit 3.1 Business value in CE (3 hrs)
Unit 3.2 Green entrepreneurship (3 hrs)
Project work: creation of 1 learning plan for each unit in the module (2 hrs)
Total duration: 40 hours

Project work

Project work – duration 11 hours.
Participants of the ENGAGE training course will learn how to set up a training plan that suits their particular educational environment, level of education and trainees.

The Learning plans that will be created will be 11 in total, one for each unit of the ENGAGE training programme

 

Description on specific project work
Task 1 (3 hours) – Module 1 units. The users of the online training material should develop 3 learning plans, 1 for each unit they will follow (1.1, 1.2, 1.3). The learning plans that will be developed should be based on the learning material of each unit. The users will complete them individually and submit them for evaluation to the content responsible partner.

Task 2 (6 hours) – Module 2 units: The users of the online training material should develop 3 learning plans, 1 for each unit they will follow (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6):  The learning plans that will be developed should be based on the learning material of each unit. The users will complete them individually and submit them for evaluation to the content responsible partner.

Task 3 (2 hours) – Module 3 units: The users of the online training material should develop 3 learning plans, 1 for each unit they will follow (3.1, 3.2):  The learning plans that will be developed should be based on the learning material of each unit. The users will complete them individually and submit them for evaluation to the content responsible partner.

Note: Trainers can use word or power point presentations for the learning plan. Participants can be divided and work into groups, and each group can work on specific topics to analyse and summarise in the end with the help of the trainer. The description above can also be presented in the form of a case study. The method of work depends on the ENGAGE partners.
